Barbara Arciero

An award-winning writer and editor has joined the California Farm Bureau Federation as managing editor of its member publications. Barbara Arciero serves as managing editor of the weekly newspaper Ag Alert® and the bimonthly magazine California Country®.

Arciero joins Farm Bureau from the West Sacramento-based Raley's supermarket chain, where she worked as senior editor of its Something Extra magazine. She previously worked as a newspaper food editor and for a public-relations firm that served a variety of food and agricultural clients.

"Barbara has a comprehensive understanding of California agriculture-and that will help us communicate with our family farmers, consumers and all those interested in our issues," said CFBF Communications/News Division Manager Ann Schmidt-Fogarty. "Our readers will benefit from her knowledge of the steps needed to bring reliable, affordable food from farm to table."

As managing editor, Arciero supervises the writing staff for the two publications, edits copy and assists Executive Editor Steve Adler in production of the newspaper and magazine. Ag Alert, the most widely read farm publication in California, is sent to voting members of Farm Bureau. The full-color California Country magazine is sent to Farm Bureau sustaining members and to readers who subscribe via the Web at www.cacountry.tv.

A resident of Davis, Arciero earned a degree in home economics journalism from the University of Missouri. She has won numerous awards for her work from organizations such as the Food Marketing Institute, National Council of Farmer Cooperatives and the Sacramento Public Relations Association.

The California Farm Bureau Federation, the state's largest farm organization, works to protect family farms on behalf of more than 88,000 members.
