The California Farm Bureau Federation Board of Directors has endorsed Richard Pombo, R-Tracy, for re-election to the House of Representatives in the 11th Congressional District.

"Richard Pombo is a key figure in Congress, fighting for balance and fairness on behalf of farmers, ranchers and other property owners," said California Farm Bureau Federation President Bill Pauli. "He has consistently provided strong leadership on natural-resource issues. He has done a great job for farmers and ranchers in California and throughout the West."

Pombo chairs the House Resources Committee and serves on the House Agriculture Committee.

"Congressman Pombo understands what happens in the real world of agriculture," Pauli said. "Throughout his career in the House, he has championed the rights of individuals and worked to reduce burdensome regulations that hamper farms, ranches and other small businesses."

Pombo has served six terms, representing a district that includes portions of Alameda, Contra Costa, San Joaquin and Santa Clara counties. The four counties produce nearly $1.9 billion worth of agricultural crops and commodities annually.

The American Farm Bureau Federation presented Pombo with its Golden Plow Award this year, recognizing his distinguished service on behalf of American agriculture.

"Richard Pombo is a leader in every sense of the word," Pauli said. "We are proud to endorse him."

The California Farm Bureau Federation, the state's largest farm organization, will mobilize nearly 90,000 members statewide to influence the outcome of the November election.
