Farm Bureau endorses Guy Houston for Assembly
» September 9, 2004 «
The California Farm Bureau Federation Board of Directors has endorsed Guy Houston (R-San Ramon) for re-election to the 15th Assembly District.
"Farmers and ranchers are pleased to join Governor Schwarzenegger in supporting Assemblyman Houston's re-election," said CFBF President Bill Pauli. "Houston is dedicated to reforming the business of government, balancing budgets and protecting taxpayers from higher taxes."
Pauli said that Houston has proven himself a tough, fiscal conservative during his first term in office. The assemblyman served on the Banking and Finance Committee as well as the Labor and Employment Committee.
"Guy Houston recognizes that farmers and ranchers create jobs and tax revenue for the local economy," Pauli said. "State laws must allow agriculture to thrive, generating tax dollars that support local schools, law enforcement and transportation projects."
Pauli praised Houston as an effective leader who serves his constituents well.
"Following the disastrous levee break this spring in the San Joaquin Delta, Guy worked with fellow legislators to provide assistance to local governments, farmers and affected communities," Pauli said. "Houston has earned another term in office."
California has been the nation's leading agricultural state for more than 50 years. The counties within the 15th Assembly District-Alameda, Contra Costa, Sacramento and San Joaquin-produce nearly $1.9 billion worth of agricultural products annually.
The California Farm Bureau Federation is the state's largest farm organization, representing more than 89,000 member families statewide.
