Citing her consistent work on behalf of family farmers and ranchers, the California Farm Bureau Federation has endorsed Cathleen Galgiani for re-election to the state Assembly. Galgiani, D-Stockton, seeks a third term representing the 17th Assembly District, which includes parts of San Joaquin and Stanislaus counties and all of Merced County.

“As chair of the Assembly Agriculture Committee, Cathleen Galgiani has advocated policies to secure the long-term future of California farms and ranches,” California Farm Bureau President Paul Wenger said. “She understands how the productive farmland of the Central Valley provides not just affordable food and farm products, but a crucial source of jobs and economic opportunity.”

Farmers in the three counties in the 17th District produced food and farm products worth nearly $7 billion last year, and Wenger said Galgiani recognizes that government policies can either help or hurt in maintaining that production.

“Cathleen Galgiani has expressed strong support for improving California water supplies, to make sure we have enough for our farms, our environment and our growing population,” he said. “We look forward to working with her, during her third term, to assure that family farms and ranches can continue to provide food, jobs and open space for future generations of Californians.”

The California Farm Bureau Federation works to protect family farms and ranches on behalf of 81,000 members statewide and as part of a nationwide network of more than 6.2 million Farm Bureau members.
