A business owner with a strong record of service, Anthony Cannella, has earned the California Farm Bureau Federation endorsement in his race for state Senate. Cannella, R-Ceres, seeks election in the 12th Senate District, which includes Merced and San Benito counties and portions of Madera, Monterey and Stanislaus counties.

“Anthony Cannella is an example of how government benefits from people with business sense,” California Farm Bureau President Paul Wenger said. “After he became mayor of Ceres, he helped the city close a $2 million budget gap by finding ways for the government to provide services more efficiently. That sort of experience will be a big plus in Sacramento.”

Wenger noted that Cannella’s business experience also provides him with a firsthand understanding of the burdens government can impose through regulation and taxation.

“As someone who grew up in the district, Anthony Cannella knows that family farms and ranches form the backbone of its economy,” Wenger said. “He will be a strong supporter of agriculture who will demand that government consider the cumulative impact of its regulations on family farms’ ability to survive. He will also press for adequate water supplies and enhanced marketing programs for farms and ranches. We look forward to working with him in the state Senate.”

The California Farm Bureau Federation works to protect family farms and ranches on behalf of 81,000 members statewide and as part of a nationwide network of more than 6.2 million Farm Bureau members.
