Students earn Farm Bureau scholarships

Thirty-six students will receive scholarships from the California Farm Bureau Scholarship Foundation to attend college this fall. Each of the students plans to pursue careers in agricultural-related fields.
Foundation scholarships totaling $73,750 were presented for the 2004-2005 academic year. The scholarship recipients were determined following interviews with applicants.
The students plan careers in a diverse range of occupational disciplines including education, engineering, finance, marketing, public relations and veterinary science.
Special honors went to four students:- Mark Aguiar of Tulare received the Howard P. Wackman II Perpetual Memorial Award, a scholarship of $2,750. He is a dairy science major at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. He plans a career in dairy reproduction and nutrition. The award is presented in memory of a former California Farm Bureau vice president.
- James Rietkerk of Corcoran received the $2,500 Frederick J. Heringer Honorary Award to continue his studies at Cal Poly, SLO, in the fall. Rietkerk, a crop science major, plans a career in farm management. The Heringer award is named for the late CFBF president.
- Bryanna Fissori of Orland earned the $2,250 Carolyn Richardson Memorial Award. Fissori will attend California State University, Chico, this fall to study agricultural business. She plans a career as an attorney. The award honors the memory of Richardson, who headed the CFBF Office of Environmental Advocacy.
- Megan Jacobsen of Fresno received the $2,250 John H. Wiechman Memorial Award. She will study agricultural communications at California State University, Fresno. She plans a career in public relations. The Wiechman award is named for the late manager of the CFBF Leadership Development Division.
Thirty-two recipients earned foundation scholarships of $2,000. They are: Karin Aschwanden, Galt; Tyler Blagg, Grass Valley; Nicole Borges, Stockton; Courtney Borrelli, Gustine; Megan Brownell, Santa Maria; Angela Browning, North San Juan; Ashley Cockrell, Cedarville; Lauren Corkins, Porterville; Audrey Denney, Bradley; Bryan Dodson, Chico; Kallie Donnelly, Wilton; Sara Eidman, Grass Valley; Molly Fagundes, Atwater; Meggie Fagundes, Atwater; Erica Flores, Santa Ynez; Melissa Green, Arbuckle; Jonnalee Henderson, Arbuckle; Candace Kimmelshue, Durham; Katherine Lee, Yuba City; Michael Macedo, Turlock; Nicolina Prestininzi, Fallbrook; Katie Reid, Quincy; Colette Rose, Santa Maria; Tracy Schohr, Gridley; Beth Sequeira, Hanford; Monte Soto, Cambria; Brandon Souza, Hanford; Chad Souza, Hanford; Amy Valente, Lodi; Summer Wells, Maxwell; Jolyn Wells, Maxwell; and Rebecca Wiedmann, Cazadero.
Since its inception in 1955, the California Farm Bureau Scholarship Foundation has awarded 830 scholarships totaling more than $923,000.
