Excellence in Agriculture Award

The Excellence in Agriculture Award is designed as an opportunity for Young Farmers & Ranchers who do not derive the majority of their income from an owned agricultural operation, while actively contributing and growing through their involvement in Farm Bureau and agriculture, to earn recognition. Participants are judged on their involvement in agriculture, leadership ability, involvement and participation in Farm Bureau and other organizations (i.e., civic, service and community).

Congratulations to the 2008 Excellence in Agriculture winners, Ted and Michelle Reimers of Stanislaus County. The couple was named the recipient of the award during the California Farm Bureau Federation's 90th Annual Meeting in Burlingame.

The Reimers both support agriculture in their respective professions. Ted Reimers is vice president at the Turlock branch of American AgCredit. Michelle Reimers serves as Public Information Division manager at the Turlock Irrigation District, which provides irrigation water and electricity to local communities. The Reimers are also partners in a 54-acre walnut orchard and own a five-acre organic fruit and nut orchard.

Ted and Michelle Reimers share a $4,000 cash prize and represented California at the national competition in January 2009 in San Antonio, Texas, during the American Farm Bureau Federation Annual Meeting.

Applications for the 2009 CFBF Excellence in Agriculture Award are due October 1, 2009.
