USDA Announces First Phase of Natural Disaster Assistance
On Wednesday, USDA announced Stage 1 of the Supplemental Disaster Relief Program (SDRP), part of up to $16 billion in crop disaster assistance for 2023 and 2024 losses. This initial round of payments will be available only to producers who had existing crop insurance or participated in the Noninsured Disaster Assistance Program (NAP). Eligible producers may begin receiving pre-filled application forms as early as today, though a submission deadline has not yet been announced.
Producers who do not meet the initial eligibility requirements will need to wait for Stage 2, which is not expected to open until mid-September. This two-phase rollout closely resembles the slow implementation of past programs like the Emergency Relief Program. California Farm Bureau is actively working to expedite the Stage 2 timeline and ensure sufficient funding remains for producers who need support. For more information on SDRP, click here.
