Associate Counsel
POSITION TITLE: Associate Counsel
SALARY RANGE: $105,000.00 to $130,000.00 per year
SUMMARY: The Legal Services Division at the California Farm Bureau is actively seeking an Associate Counsel. We are looking for someone skilled in navigating intricate legal matters, highly organized, and capable of working autonomously with exceptional precision and expertise in legal analysis and writing.
ORGANIZATION INFORMATION: The Legal Services Division provides support to the California Farm Bureau (CAFB) on a broad range of issues. CAFB is California's largest farm organization, working to protect family farms and ranches on behalf of its nearly 27,000 members statewide and as part of a nationwide network of more than 5.5 million members. Organized over 100 years ago as a non-profit, voluntary, non-governmental and nonpartisan organization, it advances its mission throughout the state together with its 54 county Farm Bureaus. Throughout its history, CAFB has maintained a reputation for innovative programs aimed at one goal: providing the best possible services available to farmers and rural residents.
The Legal Services Division fosters a friendly and healthy work environment among its seven team members. The Division members work effectively as a team, emphasizing openness, inclusion, trust, and respect within the division and the organization as a whole.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct thorough research and analysis in environmental, water, and land use law.
- Represent CAFB effectively in negotiations and disputes, including court appearances and agency proceedings.
- Collaborate with internal and external teams to formulate and execute strategic legal actions and support CAFB’s objectives.
- Travel to attend meetings or regulatory hearings as needed.
REQUIREMENTS:
3 years or more of relevant experience in water rights, water quality, land use or environmental law.
Strong analytical abilities and excellent writing skills supported by relevant professional experience.
Litigation experience is beneficial.
A member of the California State Bar in good standing.
Ability to successfully handle and prioritize a variety of legal projects in civil and administrative litigation; demonstrate an ability to work well with others of diverse professional and personal backgrounds; and work well under pressure.

- CAFB members.
- Plan and organize workload to comply with established time constraints.
- Work cooperatively with other attorneys, clients, and support staff.
- Ability to work independently and go the extra mile on behalf of CAFB and its members.
- Ability to assess fact patterns and recommend and execute an effective course of action.
- Familiarity with and ability to effectively use office equipment, including computers and related software applications, phones, and copiers.
