CARB Clean Air Act Waiver
On May 22, the U.S. Senate voted to overturn California’s Zero-Emission Vehicle (ZEV) mandate. If signed by President Trump, the resolution would eliminate California’s authority to set and enforce its own ZEV sales requirements independently. The resolution is now awaiting the president’s signature.
As a reminder, California’s existing policy requires that 35% of all new car sales be ZEVs by model year 2026. The required percentage increases annually, culminating until a full ban on new gas-powered vehicles is reached in 2035. Staff Contact: Steven Fenaroli, sfenaroli@cfbf.com
