Deal on Affordable Care Act Tax Credits Unlikely to Pass
As of Thursday morning, Congress appears unlikely to act on extending expiring Affordable Care Act tax credits before adjourning for the year. Without an extension of the COVID-era subsidies, premiums for more than 20 million people are expected to increase.
As part of the shutdown deal reached a month ago, Senate Republicans agreed to hold a vote on extending the ACA tax credits. That vote failed to reach the 60-vote threshold needed for passage, despite a handful of GOP votes in support. A similar effort in the House resulted in a Republican-backed health-care proposal that did not address ACA subsidies. Some estimates suggest that up to 25% of farmers and ranchers rely on ACA coverage, meaning higher premiums could quickly affect many agricultural families. California Farm Bureau welcomes member feedback and personal experiences related to ACA coverage and potential premium changes.
