Wolf Livestock Program Receives $2 million, and Three New Wolf Packs Recognized

The 2025 state budget has been signed, securing several key wins for the California Farm Bureau and California farmers and ranchers. Among them is $2 million in funding for the Wolf Livestock Compensation program.
Additionally, in the first quarter of 2025, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) confirmed the upgrade of three Areas of Wolf Activity to official “pack” status. The newly confirmed packs include: Ashpan pack in eastern Shasta County, the Ishi pack in eastern Tehama County and the Tunnison pack in central Lassen County.
CDFW has also posted new depredation determination forms to the CDFW Gray Wolf webpage under the "Potential Conflict and Depredation" section. Twenty new determinations were added for May and June 2025. Any confirmed or probable depredations are eligible for CDFW's Wolf-Livestock Compensation Program.
