House Begins Budget Hearings
Published Friday, April 17, 2026
This week, the various subcommittees for House Appropriations began holding budget hearings, with several administration officials testifying on behalf of the president’s recent budget proposal. Somewhat related, lawmakers still have not concluded on support for the Department of Homeland Security, which has now been unfunded since Feb. 14. The broader budget fight will likely head well into the summer with an end-of-September deadline expected. With a key midterm election not far after that, any extended budgetary fights could play a factor in the election.
