Drone Trespassing Guidance for Dairy Farmers
Published Friday, October 16, 2026
Animal rights activists increasingly use drones to film California dairies. Producers should remain vigilant and report any drone activity, trespassing or suspicious behavior to law enforcement.
If you see a drone, report it so law enforcement can determine whether the activity meets legal standards. Do not shoot at or interfere with it. Film the activity and share it with your law enforcement partners. For anyone who seems out of place, note a physical description and vehicle and license plate details.
Producers are also encouraged to:
- File a SAR (Suspicious Activity Reporting Form) report for any activism-related or unusual activity on or near your farm.
- Make sure all signage is current, including “no trespassing” signs posted three per mile along roadways and perimeters.
- Avoid allowing unknown visitors on or near your farm.
- Do not approach or engage activists. Filming from a distance is acceptable and encouraged.
